Printmaking is Part of My Art
I’ve always considered making the physical print part of making the artwork.
For more than 25 years, I’ve personally printed and finished my own work. That gives me control over the color, detail and presentation from the original underwater photographs through the finished piece.
Artist’s Craftsmanship
“This artwork is a Lifetime Variable Edition, printed, UV-laminated, and hand-mounted to aluminum composite material entirely by the artist. The artist reserves the right to refine the image’s tonal qualities over time, making each printing unique. Because of the complex, multi-stage physical fabrication involved, the total lifetime output of this work in this size and style is strictly self-limiting and rare.”
These are the Highest Quality Fine Art Prints I Can Make
Fine art quality prints on aluminum composite with recessed aluminum frame
Each print is a limited edition – entirely hand-made and hand-signed by the artist. In short, these are the highest quality archival prints that I know how to make, designed to last a lifetime.
Giclée Printing :
All of the prints are Giclées, printed on PET gloss film for the highest imaging quality using wide gamut archival inks, rated for more than 130 years of indoor life.
Working Proofs and Studio Proofs :
In the process of producing a new artwork many test prints and “working proofs” are made along the way to final editions. In addition, additional proofs are made for quality control as the work is sold and produced over the years. These are “studio proofs”, generally made in a standard width at the format of the original – 16″ X 42″ for many of my panoramic pieces that are 3:8 proportion, 16″ X 36″ for an image in 1:2 proportion, etc. They are personally printed by me using the same Giclée printing process and archival pigment inks I use to produce my finished artwork.
Print Construction :
The printed sheets are laminated with a UV protective finish in high gloss or satin, then mounted on a 1/8” thick sheet of aluminum composite material (ACM) using acrylic solvent adhesive, ensuring a permanent bond. The ACM sheets are computer routed for precise measurement and squareness. Finally, the print backed with an elegant satin-anodized aluminum square tube backing frame that is recessed 3-5” inches from the edge with a built-in mounting cleat for easy installation. Once mounted to the wall, the sheet appears to float in air one inch off the wall.
Shipping :
Pieces up to 70″ in width are packed in custom heavyweight boxes cushioned with contoured EPS foam, laser cut to fit the size of each artwork. Packed this way they can ship safely by insured ground shipping. Pieces over 70″ are crated and shipped by surface freight.
